OFW Expresses Dismay After Receiving ‘Lugaw and Water’ as Earthquake Aid from OWWA
An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Northern Cebu was disappointed after receiving ‘lugaw’ and ‘water’ as earthquake aid from OWWA.
Recently, Denslove Delapenacorbo, a Facebook user, ould not hide her disappointment after receiving what she described as a disheartening form of aid from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
The assistance, meant for OFWs affected by the recent magnitude 6.9 earthquake, turned out to be just a serving of porridge and a bottle of water.

According to Delapenacorbo, one of the OFWs hit by the quake, she felt both upset and frustrated after learning that the much-awaited help was only a simple food pack. She shared her sentiments online, questioning if this was truly the kind of support OWWA intended to give to affected overseas workers.
She explained that they were asked to fill out several forms and even had to spend money on transportation just to claim the aid. With high hopes of receiving meaningful help, she said she felt it was not worth the time, effort, and cost. Instead of easing their burden, it only added to their frustration.
Delapenacorbo expressed that many OFWs like her were excited, thinking they would receive assistance that could at least help them recover from the quake’s aftermath. But upon seeing what they were given, disappointment took over.

The OFW added that the money they used for travel could have been better spent on something more useful than what they received.
As of this writing, OWWA has not released any official statement regarding the complaint. Meanwhile, the post has gained attention from netizens who shared mixed reactions. Some sympathized with the OFWs, while others urged patience and understanding.
Still, for the affected workers, they often end up feeling neglected despite their struggles abroad.
