4.8 Magnitude La Union Earthquake Sends Students, Teachers Out of Elementary School Premises in Baguio

LA UNION EARTHQUAKE – Students and staff of an elementary school in Baguio evacuated amid the shaking caused by the 4.4 magnitude quake.

Countless Filipinos in Cebu were left devastated by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck the province last September 30. Hundreds of aftershocks were recorded by the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology or Phivolcs. Recently, the quake-recording bureau also released a bulleting about the quake that hit La Union.

The epicenter of the La Union earthquake that hit with a 4.4 magnitude, initially recorded at 4.8 magnitude, was located in Pugo — specifically 16.33°North, 120.49°East – 003 km North 78° East of Pugo.

According to Phivolcs, the origin of the La Union quake is tectonic with a depth of focus of 023 kilometers. Based on the latest bulletin issued by the quake-recording bureau, both damages and aftershocks are not expected from the quake.

However, based on a post of Inquirer, the 4.4 magnitude La Union earthquake had sent elementary students and school staff in Baguio City evacuating the school premises for their safety. They are students, teachers, and school staff of the San Vicente Elementary School.

According to Phivolcs, Intensity III was felt in Itogon, Benguet; Villasis, Pangasinan; and San Fernando, La Union. Intensity V was felt in Pugo and Tubao, La Union as well as in Baguio City.

  • Aringay, LA UNION
  • Bontoc, MOUNTAIN PROVINCE
  • Sison, PANGASINAN

  • CITY OF BAGUIO
