Newborn Found in Pigpen Belonged to the Woman Who Reported It

Iloilo Police Stunned After Woman Claiming to Find Abandoned Baby Turns Out to Be the Mom

PIGPEN – A bizarre incident in Leon, Iloilo, has captured public attention after a woman who claimed to have found a newborn inside a pigpen was revealed to be the baby’s mother.

Authorities in Leon, Iloilo, were taken aback when they uncovered that the woman who claimed to have discovered a newborn baby in an abandoned pigpen turned out to be the infant’s biological mother.

As reported by Thess Ordales of GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas, the unusual incident took place on a Saturday morning in Barangay Anonang. The woman, identified only as “Ana Mae,” 20 years old, initially told her relatives that she stumbled upon a baby lying in an unused pigpen near their residence.

The infant was immediately taken to a nearby hospital and has since been placed under the supervision of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), where the baby is reported to be in good condition.

However, the woman’s account began to raise doubts among investigators after they observed her uneasy demeanor. Police Lieutenant Mark Cortez, deputy chief of the Leon Police Station, noted that officers saw bloodstains on Ana Mae’s clothes and legs, which further fueled their suspicion.

Upon continued questioning, Ana Mae eventually admitted that she was the baby’s mother. She confessed to concealing her pregnancy from her family out of fear and embarrassment. Out of panic, she gave birth alone and later decided to leave the newborn in the pigpen before pretending to have discovered it.

Investigators also learned that Ana Mae has a two-year-old child from a former partner, though the father of her newborn remains unidentified.

Currently, both the police and the local social welfare office are extending support to the young mother and her baby. Authorities assured that the infant’s condition is being closely monitored, while Ana Mae is receiving medical and psychological assistance.

The revelation has sparked a range of reactions in the community—some expressing compassion for Ana Mae’s struggles, while others criticized her actions. Officials have since urged women facing unplanned pregnancies to reach out to health and social welfare agencies for help instead of resorting to desperate measures.
