Rufa Mae Quinto Reveals the Emotional Reason She Auditioned for Your Face Sounds Familiar
RUFA MAE QUINTO – After years of balancing motherhood and career, Rufa Mae Quinto is finally making a grand return to television through Your Face Sounds Familiar.
Rufa Mae Quinto is set to make her return to mainstream television as one of the contestants in the latest season of Your Face Sounds Familiar. The actress-comedian revealed her reasons for joining the ABS-CBN program during a media conference held earlier this week, where she opened up about her personal struggles and her renewed passion for the entertainment industry.
According to Rufa Mae, the decision came at a time when she was seeking something positive to focus on. “Ako po dumaan sa maraming pinagdaanang problema–– madrama. Kaya sabi ko gusto ko na may gawin na maganda para malibang ako kasi kailangan ko yun… Nagluluksa din kaming mag ina,” she admitted.
The Kapamilya star explained that she wanted to channel her energy into something meaningful while also bringing joy to others. “Yung naoffer sa akin ‘to, kung gusto ko daw mag audition, sabi ko maganda ito kasi matagal din na hindi ako nag full blast sa showbiz. Kumbaga kung may commercial, pa sulpot sulpot lang. Halos sampung taon ganun yung career ko dahil nag pamilya ako,” she shared.
For the past decade, Rufa Mae has been balancing her career with family life, choosing to prioritize raising her daughter, Athena Magallanes. Now that her child is older, she believes the timing is right to rediscover her passion for performing.
The actress has taken her comeback seriously by undergoing preparations for the competition. She revealed that she has been attending vocal lessons and retraining herself to get comfortable performing live again. “Bliness naman ako, natanggap naman ako kaya ginawa ko ‘to. Yun yung dahilan para maging masaya ako pero totoo naman na nagkaroon ako ng bagong pamilya dito sa ABS-CBN kaya maraming salamat sa inyo,” she said.
Despite this being her first time to compete in such a format, Rufa Mae remains optimistic about her chances. “First time ko rin mag contest na mahirap pala kasi akala ko iba yung kakanta ka lang eh. Iba yung may judge, iba yung sasayaw, iba yung may kalaban, iba yung magagaling. Tsaka alam ko kahit anong gawin ko yung boses ko hindi naman magiging kapantay nung mga champion, di ba? Pero humanda sila,” she quipped.
Joining Rufa Mae in the competition are Alexa Ilacad, Pepe Herrera, Jarlo Bâse, Dia Mate, BGYO’s Akira, JM Dela Cerna, Marielle Montellano, and Jason Dy.
Your Face Sounds Familiar premieres this October 4 and 5, hosted by Vhong Navarro and Jhong Hilario, with Sharon Cuneta, Gary Valenciano, and Ogie Alcasid as judges.
