Actress-turned-politician Aiko Melendez confirmed that she and Zambales 1st District Rep. Jay Khonghun, her longtime partner, have ended their relationship after almost eight years together. This information was disclosed by veteran showbiz columnist and talent manager Ogie Diaz through his vlog earlier this week.
The actress spoke about this, and in a statement, she shared that it took months for them to finally come up with the decision. She, however, did not disclose the reason that led to their separation.
She expressed, “This decision was not made lightly but comes from a place of respect and understanding of what is best for both of us at this time.”
The actress-turned-politician added how grateful she is to her fans for their support during their relationship, and as they move forward, they will be focusing on serving their constituents guided by the values of respect, kindness, and dedication to the public.
The actress then requested privacy moving forward as they go their separate ways. She is grateful for the memories shared.
“We ask for your understanding and privacy as we go through this transition. Thank you for your support and prayers,” she ended.
Meanwhile, Aiko and Jay have been together since 2018. According to her, it all started when he waited for her for three hours in a restaurant. She initially planned not to meet him, but fate made way for it to happen. From this point, their relationship blossomed.
Previously, she described him as a public servant who is simple and grounded. He doesn’t have a driver, and he was never surrounded by bodyguards.
