No Looting or Violence Reported After Cebu Earthquake , According to PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that no incidents of looting, theft, or gender-based violence were reported in Cebu after the powerful earthquake.

On Thursday (October 2, 2025), Brig. Gen. Antonio Marallag, deputy director of the Directorate for Police Community Relations, said that communities remain secure despite fears that disasters could sometimes lead to criminal activity.

Police visibility across affected areas has been strengthened to ensure peace and order while residents recover from the quake that struck on September 30, 2025 (Tuesday).

The Police Regional Office 7 has continued to focus on patrols and community monitoring. Officers were deployed not only to maintain safety but also to assist in rescue efforts and help protect families in evacuation sites.

According to authorities, one of their top priorities is preventing possible theft or other crimes that could take advantage of people already struggling with the aftermath of the disaster.

Earlier reports noted that around 2,250 police officers from different units of the PNP were already working together in Cebu and surrounding areas. Their tasks include supporting local government units, guiding traffic flow on affected roads, and lending manpower for relief and recovery operations.

For residents, the assurance of security has been a welcome relief in the middle of uncertainty. Many families are still staying outside their homes or in evacuation sites due to safety concerns, and knowing that police are actively guarding the community has given them a sense of protection.

While challenges remain in rebuilding and responding to the needs of earthquake survivors, authorities stressed that law and order continue to be upheld. For now, Cebu residents can focus on recovery without the added worry of crime disrupting their efforts to move forward.
