Sen. Bato dela Rosa Supports Senate Reso Urging Call for Duterte’s House Arrest

BATO DELA ROSA – The known Senator ally of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is calling for his house arrest amid his detention under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously confirmed that a “third country” agreed to host the interim release of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. However, the ICC has yet to release a decision on the former President’s camp application for his interim release. The younger Duterte did not disclose which country agreed to host her father.

According to Vice Pres. Duterte, it is not Japan nor Australia. She also recently claimed that the 80-year-old former President was allegedly found unconscious in his ICC detention room and was brought to a hospital for laboratory tests but they were allegedly not informed about the “accident”.

The Vice President stressed that her father needs a 24-hour caregiver. While there is a country that is willing to host the interim release of former Pres. Duterte if the ICC grants it, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte admitted that she prefers a house arrest for former Pres. Duterte in Davao. According to her, they would agree even on placing him in an underground bunker.

According to Sen. Bato dela Rosa, even if he has no direct communication with former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte whom he considers his second father, he knows it in his heart that he appeals to him for his return to the Philippines. He recalled the same experience with his late father and expressed his regrets that he was not able to do something for his father when he was pleading for his return.

“Ngayon, Mr. President, alam ko kahit na wala akong direktang komunikasyon kay Pangulong Duterte, alam ko, deep inside my heart, bilang aking pangalawang ama si Pangulong Duterte, alam ko deep inside my heart na the same message ang gusto niyang iparating sa akin, ‘Bato, pauwwin mo na ako sa Davao para makakain ako ng munggo, makakain ako ng inun-unan na isda,” Dela Rosa said.

Based on a post of News5 on social media, Sen. Bato dela Rosa appealed to his fellow senators to unite and set aside politics. He also emphasized the Filipino culture of loving, respecting, and caring for the elderly.

The Senator who was the first chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during Duterte’s term stressed that the former President is old, sick, and weak. Based on the post, he appealed to his fellow lawmakers to support the Senate resolution so the former President will know before he dies that the Senate is thinking of his return to the country.

“Kaya ko pinakiusap sa inyo na sana bago tayo, bago huli ang lahat, alam kong suntok sa buwan itong ating ipinapasa na resolusyon, Mr. President. ICC is beyond our control pero at least, nakiki-usap man lang tayo. Bago man lang pumanaw si Pangulong Duterte, bago man lang siya mamatay, sana maramdaman niya na somehow merong isang sangay o isang sanga ng gobyerno, partikular ang Senado, na nag-iisip na siya ay sana makauwi at mailagay sa house arrest,” the Senator said based on the post.

Three (3) senators namely Risa Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, and Kiko Pangilinan voted against the Senate resolution. Sen. Risa Hontiveros explained her vote on the resolution urging the Senate to call for Duterte’s house arrest.
