Nadia Montenegro Takes Legal Action Over Senate Restroom Controversy
NADIA MONTENEGRO – After being accused of using an illegal substance inside a Senate restroom, actress Nadia Montenegro is pushing back with formal complaints against media and Senate staff.
What started as a blind item eventually turned into a major controversy involving actress and former political staffer Nadia Montenegro. The issue arose from claims that a Senate staff member was allegedly caught using an illegal substance inside the women’s restroom. Speculation quickly pointed to Montenegro, who was then employed under Senator Robin Padilla.
In response to the circulating reports, Montenegro issued an official statement on August 13, as reported by ABS-CBN News. “I vehemently deny that I am the staff of the senator mentioned in those articles,” she firmly said.

She further explained that she was not in the ladies’ restroom at the time. “It was likewise suspecting that the alleged ‘male’ staff of Senator Lacson would say that I was the only one in the ladies’ comfort room when he should have no personal knowledge of that unless he entered and used the ladies’ comfort room at that time,” she clarified, adding that she had actually used the PWD restroom instead.
Even with her denial, the controversy grew after an incident report circulated online, sparking public criticism. Montenegro eventually stepped down from her post at the Senate, expressing her dismay over the matter. The office of Senator Robin Padilla later confirmed her resignation, noting that she had earlier been placed on leave amid the “Mary Jane” controversy. The actress, however, continued to deny the accusation, reiterating that she was only using a vape.

Determined to defend her reputation, Montenegro filed a formal complaint against several media organizations at the Caloocan Prosecutor’s Office on October 1. She also revealed her intent to take legal action against a Senate employee who, according to her, contributed to the spread of false claims.
As legal proceedings move forward, Montenegro has remained firm in her defense, pointing out that the issue has caused significant harm both to her career and personal life. The controversy has also reignited conversations on accountability, due process, and the risks posed by unverified information circulating online.
