DSWD to Shoulder Burial Costs of Cebu Quake Victims
DSWD announced its decision to shoulder the burial cost and provide financial assistance to the families for quake victims in Cebu.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has stepped in to help families who lost loved ones in the recent 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu on September 30, 2025.
To ease the burden during this difficult time, the agency announced that it will shoulder burial expenses and also extend financial assistance to the grieving families.

According to the DSWD Disaster Response Management Group, families of the fatalities will each receive P10,000 cash aid through the agency’s Field Office in Central Visayas. Social workers have already begun reaching out to the affected households, ensuring that support arrives quickly to those who need it most.
The earthquake left behind not only damaged structures but also a heartbreaking death toll, along with reports of missing and injured individuals. Cebu has since been placed under a state of calamity, allowing the provincial government to mobilize resources faster and respond to the urgent needs of its people.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier directed the DSWD to prioritize immediate assistance for quake-affected communities. Following his orders, Secretary Rex Gatchalian traveled to Cebu to personally check on families and evacuees, making sure that essential needs such as food, shelter, and financial support are being provided without delay.

Local officials and DSWD teams are now conducting assessments in hard-hit areas, including Bogo City, to determine the full extent of damage and the additional help required. Alongside burial support, the government is working on longer-term recovery measures to help families rebuild their lives after the disaster.
For many residents, the assurance of assistance during a time of loss brings a small measure of comfort.
