There had been hundreds of aftershocks following the earthquake in Cebu that started with a magnitude of 6.9.
CEBU EARTHQUAKE – Dozens were killed by the magnitude 6.9 tremor in Cebu, and aftershocks keep on coming with over 990 already recorded.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has previously recorded a 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu, which was, later on, upgraded to 6.9. The deadly tremor has claimed dozens of lives and lots of houses and establishment were left collapsed and immensely damaged because of the intense shaking.

The Archdiocesan Shrine of Santa Rosa de Lima in Daanbantayan, Cebu, was partially collapsed, and this is just one of the many establishments left severely damaged by the quake. With this magnitude, the tremor was felt across Visayas. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 5 kilometers. Phivolcs noted that aftershocks are expected.
