Truck Driver Loses License After Helper Falls to Death in Iloilo
The Land Transportation Office revoked the license of a truck driver after his helper falls to death in Iloilo.
LTO in Western Visayas has revoked the license of a truck driver after his helper fell from the vehicle’s cargo and died in San Miguel, Iloilo.
The victim, a 22-year-old man from Alimodian, Iloilo, was sitting on top of bamboo poles loaded on a Mitsubishi truck when the incident happened. Due to the rain, he slipped and fell, hitting his head on the ground.

He was rushed to the Aleosan District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The tragic accident took place last July 23.
Investigations revealed that the driver had warned his helper to ride inside the truck, but the victim reportedly chose to remain on top while recording a video. Despite this, the LTO stressed that drivers are responsible for the safety of their passengers and helpers at all times.
Under Republic Acts 10930 and 4136, it is the duty of drivers to ensure safe travel, especially when carrying cargo. Authorities explained that even if no criminal or civil charges are filed, a driver can still face administrative responsibility for failing to secure safety.

As a consequence, the truck driver’s license has been revoked for four years and flagged under the LTO’s alarm system. He was also fined for reckless driving.
The LTO emphasized that this decision serves as a reminder to all drivers to strictly follow safety rules and ensure that no one rides in dangerous positions during trips. The agency added that accidents like this are preventable if proper measures are observed.
Authorities continue to remind drivers and passengers alike that road safety should always be a shared responsibility.
