Amid the flood control mess, Zaldy Co resigns from his position.
Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co has resigned from his position in the House of Representatives weeks after he was tagged in the flood control controversy.
In the ongoing hearings regarding the anomalous flood control projects, Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co allegedly bagged billions. The billions of pesos worth of anomalies in the flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have tagged several politicians and government officials, including him.
In a previous article, Co denied the accusations, calling them “false and baseless.” He was among those mentioned by the Discayas, who benefited from the kickbacks.
Amid the mess involving billions of pesos from the taxpayers’ money, Co resigned from his position as a member of the House of Representatives. He made the announcement on Facebook, and in a post, he expressed his sadness over his decision to quit.
“Ang desisyong ito ay hindi naging madali, ngunit ito ay aking tinimbang nang mabuti para sa ikabubuti ng aking pamilya at ng mga taong patuloy kong pinaglilingkuran,” he said.
House Speaker Faustino Dy III received a letter from him, where he stated that he is “constrained to tender with immediate effect my irrevocable resignation as a member of the House of Representatives.”
In the same letter, he stated that he was being denied his right to due process, hence, the decision to resign immediately and irrevocably.
Accordingly, this is in line with the “real, direct, grave and imminent threat” to him and to his family. Co’s resignation comes after the Independent Commission for Infrastructure recommended to the Ombudsman the possible filing of graft, malversation, and falsification charges against him and several officials of the DPWH in Oriental Mindoro.
