UST Students Prepares Walkout Protest Against Corruption
University of Santo Tomas – UST students are preparing for a campus-wide walkout against corruption on Monday (September 29, 2025).
The activity, called the Thomasian Walkout, will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. inside the university grounds. The Faculty of Arts and Letters will be among those joining, with the dean allowing students to skip classes specifically to participate in the event.
The walkout has also gained the support of other student councils, including those from the Faculty of Pharmacy, the College of Education, and the College of Information and Computing Sciences.

They emphasized that standing in silence is not an option and that the Thomasian community must demand truth, accountability, and justice.
The walkout is expected to start with Pharmacy students gathering at the Botanical Garden before marching toward the Arch of the Centuries. Meanwhile, ICS students will begin with a snake rally at 3 p.m. before heading to the Plaza Mayor for the main program.
The demonstration has also drawn backing from the Organisasyon ng Nagkakaisang Empleyado ng UST (ONE UST), a coalition of labor unions within the university. While reminding students that absences are still recorded according to faculty rules, the group encouraged Thomasians, students, employees, faculty, and alumni to take part in a solidarity night on October 3, 2025.

The event is envisioned as a way to balance civic responsibility with academic life.
The walkout shows a wider call within the Thomasian community to reject corruption in all forms, both in society and within institutions. With different colleges and organizations uniting under one cause, the event emphasizes the determination of Thomasians to build a culture of honesty and accountability for the future.
