DOJ Warns Sarah Discaya to ‘Behave Accordingly’ After Viral Finger Heart Gesture

DOJ Questions Sarah Discaya’s Sincerity Amid Billion-Peso Scandal

SARAH DISCAYA – Instead of easing the tension, Sarah Discaya’s playful demeanor at the DOJ has sparked a stern reminder from the agency that sincerity and professionalism are expected from those under investigation.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has criticized contractor Sarah Discaya for her demeanor during a recent appearance at its main office, saying her actions and remarks reflected “a sign of insincerity and complacency” despite the serious allegations lodged against her.

Discaya, who unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Pasig City in the last elections, visited the DOJ on Saturday with her husband, Pacifico, also known as “Curlee.” The couple went to submit additional documents connected to the ongoing case against lawmakers and other figures implicated in alleged irregularities in flood control projects.

When reporters asked how she was upon arrival, Discaya responded with a finger heart gesture. After spending over three hours inside the agency, she later told ABS-CBN News: “Gandahan niyo yung memes ko” (make good memes about me).

Her conduct was met with disapproval from the DOJ. In a statement, Justice Spokesperson Mico Clavano underscored that these actions would factor into the department’s review.

“The heart sign and the remarks of Ms. Sarah Discaya are all taken into account in the assessment and evaluation of the persons involved,” Clavano said. “It is a sign of insincerity and complacency. We urge all persons of interest in this case to behave accordingly.”

The DOJ is evaluating whether the Discayas can be placed under the Witness Protection Program, which could grant them legal safeguards in exchange for valuable testimony.

The couple has come under heavy scrutiny for the vast number of contracts awarded to their businesses. Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, who also heads the Blue Ribbon Committee, disclosed that the Discayas’ nine firms were awarded infrastructure projects worth P207.25 billion from 2016 to 2025, based on records from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

As the inquiry continues, the DOJ reiterated its call for appropriate behavior from all those linked to the case, noting that even small gestures may affect the perception of their sincerity and credibility.
