Over 2 Million People Affected by Recent Storms, NDRRMC Says

NDRRMC reported that over two million people were affected by the recent onslaught of storms and heavy monsoon rains.

Recently, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) stated that a total of 19 people have been reported dead due to the combined effects of Tropical Storms Mirasol, Nando, Opong, and the southwest monsoon.

Four of these deaths have already been confirmed, while 15 are still under verification. Aside from the fatalities, 18 people were reported injured, with 14 of those cases confirmed.

Authorities are also validating reports of 14 individuals who remain missing. Search and rescue teams continue to work with local governments in monitoring affected areas and extending assistance to families in need.

The impact has been widespread, reaching a total of 2,026,246 people or 520,165 families from 15 regions. Many of these families have either lost their homes or are currently staying in evacuation centers due to flooding, landslides, and strong winds brought by the storms.

The consecutive weather disturbances have not only tested the resilience of communities but also highlighted the need for stronger disaster preparedness measures. Families in low-lying and coastal areas were among the hardest hit, with homes submerged in floodwaters and farmlands damaged.

For many, rebuilding will take time, especially as some areas remain waterlogged days after the rains.

Government agencies and local officials are coordinating relief efforts, distributing food packs, clean water, and other basic supplies to displaced families. Despite the challenges, stories of bayanihan are also emerging, as neighbors help one another in cleaning, rebuilding, and providing shelter.
