Jericho Rosales Speaks About Corruption Issue In The Philippines

Jericho Rosales emphasized Filipino pride

A-list actor Jericho Rosales shared his thoughts on the current corruption in the Philippine government concerning the flood control projects.

Jericho was chosen to portray the character of former President Manuel Quezon in the third movie in the Bayaniverse film series of TBA Studios. The first movie was about the life of Heneral Luna, portrayed by John Arcilla, and was followed by Goyo, the life of Gregorio del Pilar, portrayed by Paulo Avelino.

All three movies about the Philippine heroes were directed by Jerrold Tarog. Based on the article in PEP, Jericho auditioned for Heneral Luna in 2013.

Even though he did not get the first Bayaniverse role he auditioned for, Jericho Rosales was thankful to still be part of this through Quezon. “This has been the most important project of my life, and that’s not an exaggeration,” the A-list actor said.

He shared that he learned a lot from doing the movie. The actor was able to bring himself closer to history, closer to becoming the Filipino he wanted to be.

“Closer to what it really means to put cinema and history together. And, you know, at least I answered my question if I am on the right track as an actor, and as a filmmaker,” Jericho added.

Since the movie talks about politics, he shared his thoughts on the current situation in the country. He said that the sense of pride of the Filipinos is down right now. For him, the reason for this was that Filipinos have nothing to be happy about the country.

He added that Filipinos had to dig deep in order to feel that love for the country. However, the actor said that it should be like this.

Then, he enumerated the things that Filipinos should be proud of. “Dapat proud tayo sa kulay natin,” he said. Jericho also said that most Filipinos now want to watch Korean content, but he said that we should be proud of our own.

Okay lahat ng pelikula natin, di ba? Kailangan lang talaga nating sabihin sa sarili natin na, ‘Teka lang, baka oras na, na kung ito yung ginagawa ko, lampasan ko yung ginagawa ko.” he said.

The actor also stressed that Filipinos should speak about the anomalies in the government. He knows that the public is already annoyed because of politicians. However, he said that this became the situation because people let it be.

For Jericho Rosales, it is very important to have accountability. He stressed that if there is something wrong, sentiments should be aired. The actor said that it is not fine to just be quiet because if this happened, this might be the problem.

Pagpapatuloy niya, hindi tamang manahimik lamang ang mga Pilipino. “Hindi tayo tameme. Proud. Dapat proud. So ngayon, 2025, ang movement natin, maging proud Filipino. Because kung hindi ka proud Filipino, mawawala na ang Pilipinas,” he said.
