As the ongoing battle with the ICC continues, Harry Roque shares what former President Rodrigo Duterte wants to happen before his death.
Former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has been charged with crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC). Based on a previous article, Duterte was charged with three counts of murder.
ICC Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang stated that Duterte was an “indirect co-perpetrator” in the killings, which the court claims were executed by others, including the police.
Duterte is the first Asian former head of state to be indicted by the ICC, and he has been in custody since March.
Recently, on a Facebook Live of Harry Roque, a staunch supporter of Duterte, he shared that before dying, Duterte wanted something to happen. As much as we all know, the former leader has been in poor health, which was also the reason why he couldn’t stand trial.
“Ang gusto ni Tatay Digong maski five minutes bago siya pumunta sa Panginoon, eh makabalik doon sa kaniyang kuwarto sa bahay kalapati sa Davao at doon mamatay!” Roque said in his video.
This is accordingly just what the former president wants, who is now in his 80s, and that he is ready anytime to leave. He just wants to die in his own country. Even his wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman, has accordingly already accepted his fate.
“At kahapon nga, sabi ni Ma’am Elizabeth, mayroon na siyang acceptance ang kaparalan n’ya,” he said.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Vice President Sara Duterte accused President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his administration of putting her father at risk while under the custody of the ICC, by carrying out welfare checks without the approval of their family. She stressed that her father doesn’t need them as they, his family, is able to take care of him.
