Paolo Duterte Claims Sandro Marcos Allegedly Behind Pick for New House Speaker

Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte Airs Accusation versus Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos

PAOLO DUTERTE – The Davao 1st District Congressman claimed that Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos is allegedly behind the new pick for House Speaker.

Presidential cousin and Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez resigned from being the House Speaker of the lower chamber. His decision came amid the accusations of flood control corruption against him.

Romualdez was one of the names mentioned by controversial contractors Pacifico and Sarah Discaya when they claimed during a Senate hearing that some government officials as well as officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) allegedly get kickback from the government flood control deals.

According to the Discayas, the then-House Speaker and Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co allegedly receive a 30% kickback from the flood control projects. They also accused Quezon City Congressman Arjo Atayde, Pasig Cong. Roman Romulo, and Marikina Cong. Marcy Teodoro of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control projects.

According to House Deputy Speaker Jay Khonghun, the decision of Martin Romualdez to resign from being the House Speaker is allegedly a sacrifice for the chamber and the nation. He stressed that Romualdez thought about it for a long time amid the accusations hurled against him.

Romualdez is replaced by Isabela Rep. Faustino “Bojie” Dy in the position as House Speaker. Amid the change in leadership, Davao 1st District Cong. Paolo Duterte lodged an accusation against presidential son and Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos. The eldest son of Pres. Bongbong Marcos is currently the Majority Leader.

Based on a post of Inquirer, Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte claimed that it was allegedly presidential son and Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos who chose Isabela Rep. Bojie Dy to be the new House Speaker. He stressed that Marcos and Dy are party-mates in Partido Federal.

Furthermore, Cong. Paolo Duterte also claimed that the move is allegedly “just another cover-up move”. To recall, the Davao City 1st District Congressman and son of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was one of those who went out during the voting for House Speaker prior to the reelection of Martin Romualdez as House speaker in the 20th Congress.

“Now, Martin Romualdez will be replaced, and then Rep. Faustino “Bojie” Dy will be installed as Speaker. Whose choice was it? None other than Sandro Marcos — party-mate in Partido Federal, the son of the President himself. What is this? Just another cover-up move,” Duterte said based on the post.

The new House Speaker came from a political clan in Isabela. On resigning from being the House Speaker, Martin Romualdez claimed that he is stepping down not in surrender but in service.
