Zanjoe has been in the industry for many years already, and last year, reports surfaced that he would also enter politics. Posters were released showing that he would be the representative of ASAP NA (Alyansa Laban sa Substance Abuse Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas Natin) Party-list.
However, his supposed political career did not push through. The actor focused on his role as a husband to actress Ria Atayde and a father to their first child.
Just recently, the name of Zanjoe Marudo was dragged into the issue of corruption. It is known to many that he is the brother-in-law of actor Arjo Atayde, the congressman of Quezon City’s first district. Arjo is accused of being involved in the alleged anomalous flood control projects.
This intensified when Zanjoe was spotted with Arjo, Supreme Idol Daniel Padilla, and dismissed DPWH Engineer Henry Alcantara watching a PBA game. Based on the article in Abante, netizens commented that it was obvious that Zanjoe and the engineer knew each other because they were sitting beside each other, and they were laughing while they were watching the basketball game.
However, it is also a possibility that it was just a coincidence that they sat beside each other as they were both guests of a popular PBA player.
With this photo that went viral, several speculations surfaced regarding why these personalities were together. It was intriguing for some netizens that the dismissed DPWH engineer is the PBA player’s wedding godfather and is really close to the actor.
Reportedly, Zanjoe received negative comments because of this, and his failed political attempt was recalled. “Buti pala at di naka secure ng seat yung party list ni Zanjoe Marudo last election,” a netizen commented.
