Husband Killed in Tragic Accident Involving Wife-Operated Backhoe
BACKHOE – A heated argument between a couple in Bukidnon turned tragic when a husband was fatally struck by a backhoe bucket operated by his wife.
A tragic incident unfolded in Valencia City, Bukidnon, after a 34-year-old man died when he was accidentally struck by the bucket of a backhoe being operated by his wife.
According to the investigation, the man allegedly threw a stone at his wife while she was maneuvering the backhoe at her workplace. In an attempt to protect herself, the woman moved the equipment, but she failed to notice that her husband was hit by the heavy bucket.

“Out of fear, itong babae para hindi siya matamaan gi-cover niya ng bucket itong backhoe. On which wala niya mabantayi along the way naipit natong husband niya sa bucket sa backhoe. So naka-sustain ang husband niya ng serious injuries sa different part sa katawan niya,” said Major Jayvee Babaan, spokesperson of the Bukidnon Police Provincial Office.
The victim sustained severe injuries in various parts of his body, which ultimately led to his death. Authorities revealed that the couple had a history of conflict, with the man reportedly abusing his wife on multiple occasions. Because of this, the woman had previously sought court intervention, resulting in a permanent protection order.
“May permanent protection order itong babae galing sa court against sa victim. So, supposedly hindi na dapat naglapit itong biktima sa suspek natin,” Babaan added.
The woman was taken into police custody following the incident. However, on Monday, September 8, 2025, she was released after no charges were filed against her. “Update naman natin yesterday Monday, na-release itong suspek kay wala man nag-file na complaint against sa suspek,” Babaan confirmed.
Authorities have since issued a reminder to married couples and partners to prevent quarrels from escalating into violence that could result in tragedies. They stressed the importance of resolving conflicts in safe and nonviolent ways to avoid incidents similar to what transpired in Bukidnon.
Domestic violence remains a pressing issue in the Philippines, often leading to serious injuries or fatalities. Advocacy groups and law enforcement continue to call for stronger awareness and preventive measures to protect victims and stop cycles of abuse.
The Bukidnon case underscores the devastating consequences of unresolved marital conflict. Despite legal measures such as protection orders, tragedies may still occur if tensions are not properly addressed and boundaries are not respected.
