Paolo Duterte Received P51-Billion Infrastructure Budget for Davao, DPWH Official Claims

Official of DPWH Speaks on Infra Budget of Davao 1st District Cong. Paolo Duterte during his Father’s Term

PAOLO DUTERTE – Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral claimed that the 1st District Congressman of Davao City got P51-billion infrastructure fund during the last three (3) years of his father’s term.

One of the biggest issues in the Philippines now is the anomalous flood control projects in the country. President Bongbong Marcos already ordered the creation of an independent commission to probe the anomalous flood control projects funded by the government.

Moreover, Pres. Bongbong Marcos even wanted a “subpoena power” for the independent commission. Prior to it, amid several parts of the country still frequently experiencing flooding problems, the President called it “enormous” as he revealed that the government has already spent over P500 billion for the flood control projects.

The President also flagged 15 contractors that got around P100 billion of the government funds spent on the flood control projects in the different areas across the nation. He also tagged the five (5) contractors which got government contracts in almost all regions across the nation.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives have launched investigations on the flood control mess in the country. Based on a report on GMA News, during the recent hearing in the lower chamber, a DPWH official was asked about Davao City First District Cong. During the House hearing, House Infrastructure Committee chairperson and Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Terry Ridon mentioned the televised interview of DPWH USec. Maria Catalina Cabral in January 2024. Then, she claimed that Duterte got around P51-billion infrastructure funds between 2020 and 2022.

Based on the report, Ridon pressed Cabral to recall her previous statement and confirm the figures she cited.

“I guess I fairly remember, Your Honor. I think there was an interview that time,” Cabral responded.

Previously, Manila 6th District Congressman Benny Abante took swipe at Davao 1st District Cong. Paolo Duterte amid the flood control mess. He told acting Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte to ask his brother about the infra budgets he got for his district during their father’s term.

Davao City 1st District Cong. Paolo Duterte responded on the remarks of Abante.
