The Department of Health (DOH) has warned the public about fake online account endorsing products.
The health department has issued a reminder to the public to be cautious of fake websites, social media pages, and individuals pretending to be official representatives of the agency.
The warning comes after a fake DOH account started circulating online, endorsing a commercial product. The agency clarified that it does not promote or endorse any product, brand, or service for commercial purposes.
Any product being advertised using the DOH’s name or logo has no official connection with the agency or its officials.
The DOH stressed that it remains neutral and does not engage in any form of marketing or business partnerships. Its priority is to provide accurate and reliable health information to the public, not to promote specific products.
To help protect consumers, the DOH encouraged everyone to check whether a product is properly registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before buying or using it.
It can be done through the FDA Verification Portal, where users can search using either the FDA registration number or the product name
Health authorities reminded the public to be extra careful when encountering online advertisements, especially those that seem to come from trusted government agencies. Fake endorsements can be misleading and may put people at risk if the product being promoted is unsafe or unapproved.
The agency also urged netizens to report fake pages or suspicious accounts to prevent further spread of false information.
Being vigilant and verifying information can help the public to ensure their own safety and avoid being misled by deceiving promotions online.
