Newly Widened Road in Nueva Vizcaya Collapses
A portion of a newly widened road in Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya collapsed, causing a jeep loaded with tomatoes to fall into the gap.
On early Friday morning (September 5, 2025), the accident happened around 4:00 a.m. in Barangay Kirang, surprising residents who initially thought it was just a small landslide.
Witnesses realized that a jeep bound for the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal (NVAT) had fallen into the damaged portion of the road. Local authorities quickly responded and rushed the victims to Lt. Tidang Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The driver sustained minor injuries while his female passenger suffered a broken leg. Officials confirmed that both are now in stable condition. Despite the frightening incident, no lives were lost.
Reports said that light rain was falling when the collapse occurred, which may have contributed to the weakening of the newly constructed road section. The project, worth P89.6 million, was carried out by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The collapse has raised concerns among residents about the quality and safety of newly completed infrastructure projects. Many are worried that similar accidents could happen again, especially during the rainy season when roads are more prone to erosion and damage.
Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the collapse and check if the construction met proper standards. For now, the affected road has been closed to prevent further accidents while repairs and inspections are being planned.
The incident shows importance of ensuring that public projects are built with quality and durability in mind. The safety of travelers, farmers, and locals who rely on these roads should always be the top priority.
