NEPO BABIES or also called “Disney Princesses,” may file a case against the people who criticize them and spew libelous claims about them.
Some children of politicians and officials who flaunt their lavish lifestyles and expensive purchases, with some becoming social media influencers, have become the easy target of public scrutiny. This all started when reports about the anomalies of flood control projects erupted online.
People online called these kids “nepo babies” and “Disney princesses.” The anger was directed to them, the people who rose to social and professional prominence primarily due to their parents.
While some chose to make light of the matter, the deeper issue of corruption remained unresolved. Instead, public outrage shifted toward the children, who were seen as overly confident and carefree while their parents allegedly used taxpayers’ money to support their lifestyle and comfort.
One of those heavily scrutinized online was Claudine Co. Her father is Christopher Co, the co-founder of Hi-Tone Construction and Development Corp., while her uncle, Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co, is the CEO of the Sunwest Group of Companies.
Based on the expert consulted by PEP, they can file a libel case against the people who continue to criticize them. However, the development would depend on the evidence they would present, as the possibility of it being dismissed remains likely.
One thing is certain—since most of the critical comments were posted online, and with the number of bashers they face, influencers will surely have a difficult time.
“Sino ang idedemanda nila sa dami ng netizens na nag-comment? Puwedeng libelous yung ibang comments, yung iba naman nakikitawa lang o ambiguous ang mga reaksiyon,” the lawyer said.
The “nepo babies” and “Disney princesses,” after they were put at the center of the controversy, have since been deleted or have gone private. Their collections of expensive clothing, designer everything, as well as trips on private jets and helicopters, as seen on their online page, were no longer available.
