Basketball Game in Cagayan de Oro Ends in a Brawl After Heated Argument

On Sunday (August 31, 2025), a basketball tournament in CDO turned chaotic after an exchange of heated argument.
In the video, the match between two teams was intense during the final quarter, but things quickly got out of hand when players started throwing punches instead of playing the game.

The incident shocked audiences who came to watch what was meant to be a friendly match as part of the barangay’s upcoming fiesta celebration.
Barangay Captain Ebod Melizza personally stepped in to break up the fight and restore order. He explained that the basketball tournament was organized to bring the community together and create a festive spirit ahead of the celebration.
The fight, however, disrupted the event and caused concern among organizers and residents.
According to witnesses, the brawl started after a hard foul on one of the players. Tensions escalated as players from both teams joined the confrontation, turning the court into a scene of chaos.
Fortunately, barangay officials and volunteers quickly intervened to prevent the situation from getting worse.
The barangay committee is now set to meet to decide on the proper sanctions for those involved. The captain has made it clear that the player who started the fight will no longer be allowed to participate in future games.
Despite the incident, organizers are determined to continue the tournament but with tighter security and stricter enforcement of rules to ensure that the rest of the games remain safe and sportsmanlike.
