Elderly Store Owner Loses Life After Truck Crashes Into Her Home in Laguna
TRAGIC INCIDENT – An elderly store owner in Mabitac, Laguna lost her life after a dump truck crashed into her home.
Around 7:00 a.m. on Friday (August 29, 2025), an elderly woman was fixing her small store on the first floor of their house in Barangay Paagahan when the truck suddenly rammed into it. The victim was identified as Jocelyn De Lumen.
“Mga bandang 7:00 ko na na-receive ang tawag. Meron ‘yung isang dump truck na nawalan ng preno, bumangga ngayon doon sa bahay. Nag-responde kami, so nandoon pa ‘yung truck at meron na kaming nadatnan na isang patay na babae, ‘yun ‘yung may-ari nung bahay,” MDRRMC officer 4 Magno Artitchea said.
Jocelyn died on the spot due to the impact. Two of her young grandchildren were also hurt but only sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to Magno Artitchea of the Mabitac Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the dump truck reportedly lost its brakes before it went straight into the house. Rescuers quickly responded to the scene but could no longer save Jocelyn.
Witnesses said they heard the driver shouting and jumping off the truck moments before the crash. The driver reportedly fled after the incident and is now being hunted by authorities.
Removing the truck from the crash site proved difficult as it was loaded with gravel, making the clearing operations take longer. Residents in the area gathered to help and comfort the grieving family while waiting for authorities to finish the investigation.
Jocelyn was known as a kind neighbor who ran a small store that served the people in the area. Her untimely death became a reminder of how accidents can happen even in the safety of one’s own home.
Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the crash and are working to locate the truck driver to hold him accountable for what happened.
