Bridge Collapses After Overloaded Truck Crosses in Albay

The bridge in Purok 5, Ilawod, Camalig, Albay, collapsed after being crossed by an overloaded truck, which shocked the residents.

On Thursday afternoon (August 28, 2025), an overloaded truck attempted to cross the bridge in Camalig, Albay. However, the bridge collapsed as the truck’s load exceeds the maximum capacity.

The bridge was originally built for light vehicles only. However, the truck that attempted to cross was carrying a load far beyond the structure’s weight capacity, based on the initial investigation by the Municipal Engineering Office. The extreme pressure caused the bridge to collapse.

Witnesses shared that the truck might have chosen that route because nearby roads were under construction, making the bridge its only passable option.

Unfortunately, the decision led to the collapse, which not only disrupted travel but also caused inconvenience to the residents who depended on the bridge for daily movement.

Authorities responded quickly to the situation. With the help of a backhoe, the stranded truck was removed from the collapsed bridge. Although no injuries were reported, the damage to the bridge was significant and requires immediate repair.

The Local Government Unit of Camalig wasted no time in coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the second district. Plans for the repair were already set in motion, with work scheduled to begin on Friday (August 29, 2025).

For the locals, the incident emphasized the importance of following road and bridge weight limits, as disregarding them can put lives and infrastructure at risk. While many expressed reliefs that no one was hurt, they also hoped that the quick repairs would restore normal travel soon.
