Contractor Gunned Down Along National Highway in Negros Oriental
A 58-year-old male contractor was shot along the national highway in Barangay San Francisco, Negros Oriental.
On Wednesday morning (August 27, 2025), Engr. Angelito Uy Mendoza, was fatally shot in Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental.
Mendoza had started his day early, sharing coffee with a friend in Barangay Manalongon before heading out on his black Honda ADV motorcycle. He was on his way to check on a quarry site he managed when the attack happened.

As he rode through Sitio Omanod, an unidentified gunman on a black XRM motorcycle followed him. Without warning, the assailant fired at him from behind, striking him three times. Mendoza lost control of his motorcycle, which skidded across the road along with his lifeless body.
Residents nearby rushed to the scene and quickly reported the incident to the authorities. Police personnel immediately responded and brought Mendoza to a hospital in Bayawan City, but the attending physician declared him dead upon arrival.
Investigators recovered a fired cartridge case from a .45 caliber pistol at the scene. The suspect, however, managed to escape and fled north on his motorcycle.

Mendoza’s sudden death left the community in shock, especially those who knew him not only as a contractor but also as a neighbor and friend. For his family, it was a devastating loss that came without warning.
Authorities are now looking into possible motives behind the killing. While the investigation is still ongoing, the police are urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and help identify the suspect.
