Senior Citizen Stabbed by Fellow Elderly During Zumba Session

A male senior citizen in Ormoc City was stabbed by another elderly participant during a zumba session over jealousy.

On August 17, 2025, a lively and fun zumba session in Ormoc City turned into a scene of violence when a 62-year-old man was attacked by another elderly participant out of jealousy. The incident happened at a public plaza where residents had gathered to dance and exercise.

The victim, identified as “Ruel,” was enjoying the session when 72-year-old Alfredo Simon, a retired member of the Philippine Constabulary, suddenly approached and stabbed him in the middle of the activity.

Bystanders were left in shock as the cheerful event was interrupted by the unexpected attack. Ruel was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he is now recovering from his injuries. Thankfully, he survived the assault and continues to undergo treatment.

Authorities immediately responded and were able to arrest the suspect just a few hours after the incident. Simon was caught carrying not only a knife but also a firearm and several bullets.

Police investigation revealed that jealousy may have triggered the violent act. The suspect allegedly suspected his wife of having a relationship with the victim, though authorities are still verifying the claim.

Witnesses shared that the attack appeared to be sudden and unprovoked, leaving many in disbelief. Currently, Simon remains detained and is facing charges of frustrated murder, along with violations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The incident has left the residents disturbed, as zumba sessions in the plaza are normally seen as safe. Many participants expressed sadness that an activity meant to promote health was filled by jealousy and violence.
