Sara Duterte on Archived Impeachment Case: ‘I wanted all evidence presented for everyone. But unfortunately, it will not happen now’

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Claims Her Legal Team Prepared For All Possibilities

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed she wants all evidence presented but it will not happen now after the Senate archived the impeachment case.

Following the ruling of the Supreme Court which declared the impeachment complaint against Duterte as “unconstitutional”, the Senate decided on the fate of the impeachment case against the Vice President.

The high court said the impeachment complaint did not follow the one-year rule after four (4) impeachment complaints were filed in the same year. The complainants argued that the other complaints were archived and not transmitted.

Some complainants and the House of Representatives filed a Motion for Reconsideration before the Supreme Court. Thus, the lower chamber asked the Senate to wait for their appeal before deciding to whether or not dismiss the impeachment case.

House of Representatives

With a 19-4 ruling, the Senate recently voted to archive the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The motion was introduced by Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman Rodante Marcoleta, a known Duterte ally.

Based on a report on PhilStar, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that her lawyers prepared for all the possibilities including the Senate archiving the impeachment complaint. According to the Vice President, they really did not expect on anything as her lawyers were prepared for all possibilities.

However, according to her, her desire for all the evidence to be presented for everyone will no longer happen now following the Senate ruling. Based on the report, she really wants all pieces of evidence from both the prosecution and the defense to be presented.

“I wanted… all the pieces of evidence from the prosecution and all the pieces of evidence from the defense presented for everyone. But unfortunately, it will not happen for now,” the Vice President expressed.

Recently, another known Duterte ally, Sen. Imee Marcos, suggested to the House of Representatives to replace Speaker Martin Romualdez instead of ousting Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The Vice President was impeached by the House last February.
