Sen. Bato dela Rosa Speaks on Impeachment Case of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte
BATO DELA ROSA – The Senator expressed his belief that there is no need for them to debate over the impeachment case of Vice President Sara Duterte.
The Supreme Court declared the Articles of Impeachment against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as “unconstitutional” ahead of the opening of the 20th Congress. The court found the complaint violating the one-year rule with regards to impeachments.

The Supreme Court decision is immediately executory but a motion for reconsideration may be filed. Some complainants against Duterte as well as the House of Representatives have already filed a motion seeking for the reversal of the decision of the high court.
The House previously asserted that the ruling of the Supreme Court is ‘not yet final’, thus, they urged the Senate to delay the decision on whether or not to junk the trial and wait for their appeal.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada previously claimed that 19-20 senators are likely to abide by the ruling of the Supreme Court. However, Sen. Risa Hontiveros said she will block all motions that will seek the dismissal of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial. She believes it would be a “premature” move.

Sen. Risa Hontiveros claimed that she is ready for any debate in the event that a motion for the dismissal of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial will be raised. Recently, known Duterte-ally Sen. Bato dela Rosa spoke on the matter.

Based on a post of News5, during an interview, Sen. Bato dela Rosa expressed his belief that there is no need for a debate. The former Philippine National Police Chief turned Senator stressed that the Supreme Court has already spoken.
“Sa akin, hindi ako lawyer, as I’ve said pero naniwala ako that nobody is supreme and above the Supreme Court except God. God lang. Pero all other agencies or branches of government, co-equal branch ‘yan pero alam natin na ang Supreme Court ‘yan ang tinahasa ng Konstitusyon na mag interpret ng lahat ng mga legal and Constitutional questions,” the Senator said.
Meanwhile, based on the post, Sen. Bato dela Rosa confirmed that he will respect the appeal of Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero to hear the sides of the four (4) senators who signed the resolution to continue the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
