Viral FJ Cruiser Issued Show Cause Order Over Hazardous Lights

LTO has issued a show cause order to a viral FJ cruiser owner for using bright light bars at the back of the car.

Recently, a Toyota FJ Cruiser caught the eye of netizens and authorities after a video of it went viral online. The post immediately spread like wildfire on social media and elicited comments from the online community.

The Land Transportation Office has now issued a show cause order to the vehicle’s registered owner for using bright light bars at the back of the car, something that could pose danger to other drivers on the road.

According to LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II, the rear light bars could affect the visibility of vehicles behind the FJ Cruiser, especially during nighttime. Many people online expressed concern, saying the lights were too blinding and could cause accidents.

“Hindi natin alam kung ano ang tumatakbo sa utak ng may-ari ng sasakyan na ito na magpakabit ng nakakasilaw na ilaw na ganito. Bawal po yan dahil it can compromise road safety lalo na sa gabi,” said Mendoza.

These types of lights are not allowed under traffic regulations because they can distract or temporarily blind other drivers.

The LTO acted quickly by asking the vehicle owner to explain why such lights were installed and why they shouldn’t face administrative charges. The agency also placed the FJ Cruiser under “alarm,” which means any transaction involving the vehicle is now on hold until the issue is resolved.

In addition, the LTO asked the driver at the time of the incident to surrender their license as part of the ongoing investigation.

“We already issued a show cause order against the registered owner of the vehicle wherein he was also advised to surrender the license of the driver using the car at the time of the incident,” he added.

Both the registered owner and the driver are now required to submit a written explanation. This step will help determine if further penalties or charges are needed.
