Marikina Blogger Proudly Shared They Were Spared from Flooding During Recent Storms

A Marikina blogger proudly shared that their areas stayed safe from heavy flooding during the recent storms and monsoon rains.

Recently, the Facebook page Inside Marikina hared that their community was spared from heavy flooding during the recent storms and strong southwest monsoon rains. The post garnered various reactions from the online community.

According to the blogger, their area remained mostly dry, even after being hit by Typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong, along with the enhanced habagat.

The streets that usually flood quickly like Katipunan, Russet, Olive, and other parts of Concepcion Dos either stayed flood-free or only experienced shallow water that quickly receded.

Many residents were surprised by the noticeable improvement, especially compared to past years.

“Pati yung mga nadadaanan namin dati na binabahang kalsada sa Con Dos like Katipunan St, Russet St, Olive St., Binaha man ay mababaw at saglit lang. Napakabilis humupa ng baha sa mga kalsadang nabanggit,” the blogger wrote.

Inside Marikina credited several factors for this positive change. One major reason was the improvement of large drainage systems under the roads, projects that caused traffic and inconvenience for years but are now showing real results.

The page also pointed to the working pumping stations that actively remove excess rainwater, as well as the ongoing Marikina River improvement project. The river is now clearer, with dredging being done both by the DPWH and the local government.

“Hindi po ito kaya ng isang tao lang. Ito ay dulot ng sama-samang effort ng marami over the years. Hindi ito project ng isang tao or project na minsan or kahapon lang ginawa,” it added.

The blogger also mentioned the Upper Wawa Dam’s role in managing water flow. Instead of rushing water straight into the river, the dam now helps control the release, reducing the risk of flash floods.

The city’s efforts to clean canals and maintain choke points during rainfall also played an important role, along with the overall cleanliness of Marikina’s surroundings.
