In a social media post, actress-vlogger Ivana Alawi shares a video of her doing this for the people affected by the series of cyclones and habagat.

In the Philippines, if there’s one Filipino trait people are proud of, except for being hospitable, it would have to be compassion. This is especially much appreciated during difficult times such as natural disasters.

The country was battered by Severe Tropical Storm Crising (international name: Wipha), Tropical Storm Dante (Francisco), and Typhoon Emong (Co-May), combined with the southwest monsoon or Habagat. 40 cities and municipalities were placed under a state of calamity across the country due to massive floodwaters caused by persistent rains.

According to the report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday, 25 people are dead and eight are missing due to habagat and cyclones’ onslaught. 3.84 million people, or 1.06 million families, were affected by the heavy rains and severe flooding.

Recently, on Instagram, actress-vlogger Ivana Alawi inspired millions after sharing a video of her cooking meals for people and giving them money. She cooked her personal favorite “Bulalo” using a huge stockpot, and packed it in small amounts to be given to individuals she could find on the streets. After handing them the meal, she would then pull out bills from her pocket and give each PHP 1,000.00.

As of this writing, the post has already earned over 1.2 million reactions, shared online by over 60,000 people, and more than 80.3K left comments.

Meanwhile, the series of cyclones and the southwest monsoon incurred over Php billion in damage to the country’s agri-fisheries sector. 45,408 farmers and fisherfolk and 43,741 hectares (ha) of agricultural areas in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Socckskargen were affected.
