Floodwaters Rush Into Antipolo After Subdivision Wall Collapses Due to Heavy Rains

Floodwaters rushed into a village in Antipolo City after a wall behind a nearby subdivision collapsed due to continuous rains.

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, a sudden rush of floodwater hit Sitio Hinapao in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City after a subdivision wall collapsed. A CCTV footage captured the alarming moment when residents standing on the street suddenly ran for safety as water gushed rapidly into their direction.

According to Benet Tapales of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (BDRRMO), the wall collapsed because of heavy water buildup from the neighboring subdivision.

The rains had been pouring nonstop, and the water collected until it became too much for the wall to hold.

The sudden collapse alarmed many residents who thought the structure was strong enough to withstand the rain. Tapales explained that cracks began forming underneath before the wall finally gave in, sending a strong surge of water toward the homes.

Emily Caning, the homeowners’ association president of Sitio Hinapao, said similar incidents have occurred before, especially during heavy typhoons. This time, the floodwaters managed to enter several homes, washing away belongings and causing panic among the residents.

Jeannette Gumban, a resident, shared that they were caught off guard when the powerful water current entered their lot. At first, it was just a small trickle, but moments later, a loud noise from the back signaled the sudden burst of water.

Thankfully, no one was hurt during the incident. While the local evacuation center is ready, no families have evacuated so far.

The city government of Antipolo, along with the barangay and the HOA, are now working together to find long-term solutions. BDRRMO teams continue to clear debris and assess how many families were affected.

Residents are reminded to remain alert and work hand-in-hand with authorities to stay safe.
