Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero Junks Call to Inhibit on VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial
CHIZ ESCUDERO – The Senate President reacted to the calls to rush the start of the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
The 19th Congress has adjourned without the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. There was an opening of the impeachment process and the senators have taken their oath as judges but the Senate impeachment court ruled for the return of the Articles of Impeachment to the House of Representatives.

According to Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero, the return of Duterte’s impeachment to the House does not equate to the dismissal of the case. He stressed that it is an opportunity for the House to answer questions before the impeachment court decides.
The senator judges asked about the constitutionality of the impeachment of the Vice President. The impeachment court also sought a reconfirmation from the 20th Congress over its willingness to push through with the process.

Eighteen senator judges supported the remand of Duterte’s impeachment to the House while five senator judges opposed the motion. Former Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel and Senator Risa Hontiveros stressed that there is no concept of return in the legal process.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero claimed that the Senate impeachment court can even junk Duterte’s impeachment case even without a trial. He stressed that the impeachment court can decide over anything.
Recently, the Senate chief also expressed his stand on the calls for him to inhibit from the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he refused to inhibit from the trial.
“Klaro ang kanilang gusto mangyari, at hindi porket hindi sumasangayon sa kanila o sumusunod sa kanila, eh hindi na patas. Being fair means applying the rule evenly to everyone regardless of who it is,” he said.

According to Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero, the Senate impeachment court allegedly shares five (5) similar questions with the Supreme Court over Duterte’s impeachment. He revealed that the high Court has 11 questions to the prosecution team.
Based on the report, Escudero also reiterated his stand that the 19th and 20th Congress are not binding. Thus, the 20th Congress would have to decide all over again. He also reacted to the calls to rush the start of the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
“Hindi namin trabaho na pamadaliin. Saan ba nakasulat na madaliin ito? At hindi porke’t nagmamadali sila ay kailangan na rin namin magmadali. Gagawin namin ito sangayon sa proseso,” Escudero claimed.
Previously, Sen. Joel Villanueva claimed that some senators agree to start the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte on August 4.
at saan din ba nakasulat na i-delay at balakin pang i-dismiss ito? sobra ata takot mo sa sekretong hawak ni duterte sayo…. to the point na magtanga-tangahan na sa trabaho ng senado….
