Senior Citizen Arrested for Robbing Fellow Senior Inside Jeepney
A senior citizen was arrested after stealing from another elderly passenger inside a jeepney in Barangay 659-A, Ermita, Manila.
On July 9, 2025, a 61-year-old man allegedly took P80,000 from a 79-year-old man while they were riding the same jeep in Quiapo, Manila.
According to the police, the victim only realized his money was gone after getting off the jeep along Carriedo Street in Quiapo. The cash was placed in a small plastic bag tucked in his pocket. Thankfully, another passenger witnessed the incident and helped the victim report it to the authorities.
Police immediately reviewed nearby CCTV footage. In the video, the suspect can be seen boarding the same jeep as the victim. Another clip showed him walking briskly after the theft and later riding an e-trike.
“Back tracking ang ginawa natin na umabot tayo dun sa area ng Quiapo sa pagbaback track natin, na-sighted natin dun ‘yung suspek dala-dala ‘yung parang purse nung ating biktima which is ‘yung socks no mid-cut socks na may lamang pera din,” Saligumba said.
Police also spotted the suspect carrying the victim’s improvised money pouch, which was a pair of mid-cut socks.
“Problema lang po kasi, sa financial po. Humihingi na lang din po ako ng tawad, sa ganun, sa nangyari. Patawarin nalang po ako. Kasi po, naisauli ko naman po yung medyo 40,000,” the suspect said.
On the afternoon of July 10, police found the suspect at a mall in Quiapo. He was still wearing the same clothes and was caught with the stolen money pouch. However, only P40,500 was recovered.
The suspect admitted to using some of the money to buy groceries and pay off debts. He confessed to the crime and asked for forgiveness, saying he returned part of the stolen amount. Authorities revealed that he had previous cases of theft and robbery.
