Incoming Sen. Ping Lacson Speaks on Motions in Impeachment Trial
PING LACSON – The incoming Senator warned the senator judges over the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
The impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Duterte has yet to start after the Senate impeachment court ruled for the return of the Articles of Impeachment to the House of Representatives. Eighteen (18) senators judges voted in favor of the motion to remand Duterte’s impeachment to the House.
The return of Duterte’s impeachment to the House of Representatives is an opportunity for the prosecution team to answer questions as per Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero. However, based on the latest survey of the Social Weather Station or SWS, more Filipinos believe that the Senate allegedly delays the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Previously, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero who acts as the presiding officer of the Senate impeachment court previously claimed that the return of Duterte’s impeachment does not equate to a dismissal or termination of the impeachment case against the Vice President. He also claimed that the Senate impeachment court can dismiss the impeachment case even without a trial.
Incoming Sen. Ping Lacson previously spoke on the dismissal of the impeachment case of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The returning lawmaker stressed that the prosecution has even yet to present the evidence. He asked what will be the basis of the dismissal without a trial.
Recently, incoming Sen. Ping Lacson warned the senator judges regarding the impeachment case of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on PhilStar, he stressed that the filing of the motion should lie between the prosecution and the defense teams.
“VP Impeachment Jurisdiction: A gentle caution to senator-judges of the impeachment court – we should leave the filing of all motions and pleadings to the prosecution and defense teams,” Lacson said.
Incoming Sen. Ping Lacson stressed that the job of the senators in the impeachment trial “is to listen to their arguments and counter-arguments and make a ruling” as per the report. Previously, Sen. Risa Hontiveros claimed that she will block the motion of Sen. Bato dela Rosa over the impeachment case of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
