Nicholas Kaufman, Duterte’s Lawyer, Speaks on Malacañang Undersecretary Claire Castro

Duterte’s lawyer Nicholas Kaufman spoke on Malacañang press undersecretary Claire Castro over their respective jobs.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for more than 100 days now. He is faced with an allegation of crimes against humanity over the war on drugs of his administration.

Known Duterte ally and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano recently filed a resolution calling for a house arrest for former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. He cited the old age, the deteriorating health, and the prolong social isolation of the former President in the resolution. He wants the Philippine government to urge the ICC to grant the interim release bid of the former President.

However, a lawyer believes that the ICC is most unlikely to grant the call of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano for Duterte’s house arrest. The Department of Justice and a group in the House of Representative also previously expressed an opposition on the ICC interim release bid of the former President.

Duterte’s lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, sought for the ICC interim release of the former President to an undisclosed country. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that not all of the needs of the former President can be met inside the ICC detention facility considering that he is 80 years old now.

The Vice President further claimed that the former President may be better taken cared of if they can have a nurse or a caregiver for him. In his resolution, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano claimed that it is allegedly an injustice to deny the former President of time with his family in his twilight years.

A few days ago, Malacañang press undersecretary Claire Castro said Duterte’s lawyer “should concentrate on his defenses, he should concentrate on the allegations and admissions of the former President of his killings”.

Malacañang

Recently, Atty. Nicholas Kaufman reacted to the remarks of Malacañang press undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro. Based on a report on GMA News, the British-Israeli Lawyer calls on the Palace official not to interfere with his job.

“Well, I’d kindly thank Claire Castro not to interfere with the job that I’m doing, just as much as I wouldn’t interfere with the job that she’s doing: peddling the misinformation of her own administration,” Duterte’s lawyer said.

Based on the report, Atty. Nicholas Kaufman also claimed that the Malacañang Undersecretary allegedly “seems to have a rather unhealthy obsession” with him.

Previously, Malacañang spoke on the Philippines rejoining the ICC.
