Darryl Yap shared this post following Gisellle Sanchez’s statement
Actress-comedienne Giselle Sanchez expressed that she regretted portraying “Cory” in the movie Maid in Malacañang, and this received a reaction from director Darryl Yap.
Direk Darryl is known for his controversial projects. His most popular project is the trilogy about the Marcos family. MiM, the first installment, was released in 2022.
When the teaser was released, it stirred the online community and the showbiz industry. A portion showcased the character of “Cory” who was wearing a yellow dress with a hair curler, and was playing mahjong with the nuns.
Giselle was criticized back then for her decision to portray the role. However, at that time, she defended that it was just a form of art.
Just recently, Giselle Sanches played a different tune. She admitted in an interview that she regretted accepting the role and that she could have thought better.
After that statement, Direk Darryl Yap shared his reaction through his Facebook post. The filmmaker said that he understood Giselle’s sentiment.
“Sa totoo lang, naging regret din siya ng production; kasi lahat ng kasama sa pelikula, artista man o nasa likod ng camera ay may taglay na kahandaan sa opinyon ng publiko—paninira man o papuri,” he shared.
The director also said that it was Giselle who was affected by this, and the team was worried about her. Direk Darryl shared that he already had a heads up to the people working on the project that the negative comments would be there, not just because of the film, but also because he was the director.
Direk Darryl knew that there were only a few people who could and were willing to work with him, but he was not taking this against anyone.
“Ang hindi ko lang gets ay yung ‘Taga-UP ka pa naman bakit tinanggap mo yan.’ Bakit? Iba ba ang hangin sa UP?” the director said.
Behind this, Direk Darryl Yap said that he will continue to respect everyone’s art, and it is an honor for him to be on the list of those whom people love or hate to work with.
“Kasi yun lang naman ang mahalaga, kahit anong listahan pa yan… nasa listahan ka. Salamat po,” he said.
