TONY YANG – The brother of former Presidential Economic Adviser Michael Yang was arrested in Pasay City due to multiple complaints filed against him.
Authorities served an arrest warrant following investigations by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) last October 2024.
According to police reports, the NBI had earlier filed 16 charges against Yang. These include falsification of public documents, perjury, and violations of the Anti-Alias Law. The complaints were based on findings that Yang allegedly used multiple aliases to register and establish various companies with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Cagayan de Oro City.

“Meron pa rin siyang kaso sa Bureau of Immigration that’s why ‘yung kanyang passport ay confiscated ng Bureau of Immigration,” Pasay City police chief Col. Joselito De Sesto said.
Yang was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration’s Fugitive Search Unit, along with their Intelligence Division and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission. He was caught at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 after arriving from Cagayan de Oro on September 19, 2024.
Since then, Yang has been held at the Pasay City Jail. His passport was also confiscated due to his status as an undocumented alien. Authorities say Yang has been living in the Philippines for nearly 30 years without proper immigration records.

While some have linked Tony Yang to illegal drug activities, he strongly denied any involvement. He also mentioned that he is not in contact with his brother Michael, saying they live separate lives and have no communication.
As of this writing, police say they are focusing on the existing charges and have not received any information about other possible illegal activities. Investigations are still ongoing as legal proceedings move forward.
The arrest has drawn attention due to Tony Yang’s connection to a high-profile figure, but authorities stress that all individuals, regardless of background, are subject to the law.
