Aside from her acting caliber, she is also known for her famous “sampal.” Many celebrities want to work with her to experience her slap in a dramatic scene.

In a recent “kwentuhan” that happened at Lolit Solis’s wake, based on the article in PEP, a showbiz insider shared how “Diamond Star” became the moniker of Maricel Soriano.
Back then, Superstar was already the moniker of Nora Aunor, while the Star For All Seasons was Vilma, and Maricel’s contemporary, Sharon Cuneta, was already called the Megastar.
It was said that Maricel’s manager back then was Manny Valera, and he did not like to call her “Star of the Decade” because this would just last for 10 years.
A showbiz insider shared that Manny V was already pressured to find the right moniker for Maricel. Then, one day, he was riding in his car when he noticed a bus passing by and it was “Diamond Star Bus.”

“Eureka! Sa umpisa ng drama anthology niyang Maricel Regal Drama Special [1987-1990] na naging The Maricel Drama Special [1990-1997], sa umpisa ay may photo shoot ang aktres na napapalibutan ng pagkalalaking mga diyamante,” the showbiz insider shared.
For many years, that one-minute intro has been part of many people’s viewing habits and this meant that the branding was successful.
In the movie Pustahan Tayo, Mahal Mo Ako in 1995, Maricel Soriano’s “Diamond Star” moniker was fully shown. Her leading man in this movie was Bong Revilla, who earned the moniker “Titanic Action Star.”
