Sharon Cuneta Celebrates Frankie’s Big-Screen Breakthrough
SHARON CUNETA – Frankie Pangilinan’s impressive performance in EdJop has earned the heartfelt praise of her mom, veteran actress Sharon Cuneta.
Veteran actress and iconic Megastar Sharon Cuneta recently shared her overwhelming pride as she witnessed her daughter, Frankie Pangilinan, make her acting debut in the film EdJop. A special fundraising preview was held earlier this month, giving Sharon the opportunity to see Frankie step into the world of cinema for the very first time.
In the film, Frankie plays the young version of Joy Jopson, the wife of Edgar “EdJop” Jopson — portrayed by Elijah Canlas. The story follows the life and activism of Jopson, a prominent figure during the Martial Law era in the Philippines who was tragically killed in 1982.
Following the screening, Sharon posted a brief interview on Instagram where she shared how deeply the film affected her. “I’m a Jodi fan and now, Elijah [as well]. You kinda know what to expect because you know the story, the history. When I came, I sat, and I watched, it still hit me when I didn’t expect it to hit so it has such an effect on me that I cried,” she said.
Alongside her emotional reflection, Sharon praised the lead actors, Elijah Canlas and Jodi Sta. Maria, for their strong performances. She also commended Frankie for her portrayal, highlighting her daughter’s natural talent and connection to a family of gifted performers, including Helen Gamboa, Ciara Sotto, KC Concepcion, and herself.
Frankie, who is currently studying in New York, filmed her role during her college breaks. Sharon proudly shared, “My Kakie’s @frankiepangilinan first-ever movie which she filmed during vacations from college!!! She did very well in it and I am so so so so proud of her.”
The post quickly received love and support from fans and celebrities alike, many of whom expressed how thrilled they were to see Frankie begin her journey in acting. EdJop also stars seasoned actors like Cedric Juan, adding depth to the film’s powerful narrative.
