Former actress Gretchen Barretto was allegedly involved in the case, and here are her thoughts about it through her legal counsel.
In a previous article, a female celebrity was among the ‘alpha’ members according to the claims of a witness. Shortly after, she named Gretchen Barretto as one of the people involved in the case and urged her to testify to Atong Ang, the alleged mastermind in the missing sabungeros case.
Alyas Totoy did not directly refer to Barretto as the alpha female member; however, his claims implicated this. After they were identified along with others, they are now considered among the alleged suspects.
Ang will file charges against the whistleblowers, and recently, through her legal counsel, Atty. Alma Mallonga, Barretto issued a statement. Barretto denied her involvement in the case and described the allegations as standing on plain water. She even claimed she was a victim of an attempt to extort money from her in exchange for her name’s exclusion from the list of suspects if she paid.
But she refused “because she had done nothing wrong.”
She vowed to cooperate in the investigation and expressed hope that an “objective” investigation would prove her innocence. Barretto added that she understands the significance of resolving the case. It added that it is paramount that the sabungeros and their families know the truth.
It stated, “Ms. Barretto understands the importance of resolving the case. The sabungeros and their families deserve to know the truth, and they deserve closure because their lives matter. Justice can only be served by a responsible and thorough investigation of the case based on evidence and facts.”
Meanwhile, apart from Ang and Barretto, a former local government official, several police officers, and an ex-judge were also involved in the case.
