Sugar Mercado is now a beauty queen
Actress and TV host Sugar Mercado talked about her decision to join Mrs. Universe Philippines 2025.
Sugar rose to fame through the longest-running noontime show, Eat Bulaga. She was part of the show’s dancer group S=xbomb Girls. Eventually, she was given a chance to be the show’s host and had some acting stints.
Then, she became one of the co-hosts of veteran game show host Willie Revillame. Previously, Sugar revealed that she and Willie had a romantic relationship.
Late last year, rumors surfaced about the real score between Sugar Mercado and the veteran TV host. Back then, the actress denied that she and Willie had a relationship and said that she wondered where the rumors came from.
A few months after her revelation about her 7-year relationship with Willie, Sugar achieved a new milestone in her life. She was hailed as Mrs. Universe Philippines 2025 and is set to represent the country in the international pageant on October 15. She will compete against 35 other contestants.
In a recent interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, based on the article in GMA Entertainment, Sugar shared that her first pageant experience was when she joined Eat Bulaga’s TV Babe.
With her Mrs. Universe PH journey, Sugar said that it was her manager, Wilbert Tolentino, who encouraged her to join.
“Sabi niya (Wilbert), ‘Kaya mo ‘yan kasi magaling kang magsalita atsaka marami ka nang karanasan bilang alalay’ kasi itong patimpalak na ‘to, Tito Boy, hindi naman siya ‘yung beauty queen ka, hindi lang ‘yung matalino ka, kung ano ‘yung pwede mong ibahagi sa kapwa mo, magulang, o sa mga napapaligiran mo,” the actress shared.
When asked about the possibility of joining Miss Universe Philippines, as age and civil status are no longer restricted, Sugar Mercado said that she is not closing her doors. The actress said that if given a chance, she would grab it.
