Police Chief in Rizal Removed from Post Over Alleged Laziness

Police Chief in Rizal Relieved From Duty Over Inaction on Theft Case

A police chief in Rizal province has been relieved from duty after failing to act promptly on a theft complaint.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III reported that a police chief in Rizal was fired for allegedly being lazy. The removal happened over the weekend after it was found that the police station, located in an unnamed city in Rizal, did not take proper action on a serious report from a businessman.

The businessman claimed that two of his employees stole P600,000 from him. Instead of immediately investigating and pursuing the suspects, the police officers at the station reportedly just recorded the complaint in the blotter and focused on preparing documents for a possible case filing.

No urgent efforts were made to track down the accused individuals.

Gen. Torre, who expressed disappointment over the slow response, stepped in and issued direct orders to locate the suspects. As a result, the two employees were eventually caught in Negros. Authorities were able to recover P500,000 from them.

The incident emphasizes the importance of quick and proper action by law enforcement, especially in cases involving large sums of money. The businessman had trusted the police to act quickly, but instead, the delay could have allowed the suspects to escape for good.

Due to the lack of urgency and responsibility shown by the police station, the chief was removed from his position. This move is meant to send a strong message that neglecting duty will not be tolerated.

With the suspects now in custody and part of the stolen money recovered, the case continues under the supervision of more responsive police authorities.
