VP SARA DUTERTE – The country’s second-in-command has this to say about her father’s oath as the new mayor of Davao City.

Among the winners of the Halalan 2025, or the midterm election, is former president Rodrigo Duterte. He won as mayor of Davao City; however, he is currently in detention at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a previous article, Duterte’s camp pleaded for his interim release from detention. This was opposed by the ICC prosecutor, citing several reasons that included his past remarks that seemed to be contrary to what was reflected in their submitted documents.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla previously expressed that they are putting on effort to seek the ICC’s approval for Duterte to take an oath as mayor of Davao City.

According to the results, he got 662,630 votes against his opponent Karlo Nograles‘ 80,852 votes. He was already proclaimed as the winner and became the city’s head again after vacating it in 2016, when he became president of the Philippines.

To recall, He was Davao City mayor from February 1988 to June 1998, from July 2001 to June 2010, and from July 2013 to June 2016.

Recently, his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, revealed that there are discussions between the former president and the lawyers. She doesn’t know yet what they talked about and is uncertain if he will be allowed to take the oath.

What she knows is that if he will not be allowed, his brother, the victorious vice mayor, will be the city’s acting mayor.

“So, magsisimula yung term ng mga newly elected officials natin noon ng June 30. Kung ang mangyayari — kung ang senaryo ay hindi maka-oath si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte as mayor ng Davao City, ay magiging acting mayor ‘yung Vice Mayor ng Davao City,” she explained.
