Group of Heavy Drinkers Holds Protest Over High Alcohol Prices

Group of Heavy Drinkers Express Frustration Over High Alcohol Prices

A group of heavy drinkers in Ghana staged a protest to express their frustration over the rising cost of alcoholic beverages.

The protest was organized by the Ghana Drunkards Association (GDA), one of the country’s most well-known organizations, which claims to have over 6.6 million members.

The group gathered in the city of Accra to voice their concerns to the government. According to their president, Moses Onyah, the recent 15 percent price increase on alcoholic drinks has greatly affected many of their members.

They believe this sharp rise in prices is unfair and makes it harder for ordinary people to enjoy what they consider part of their daily routine.

The group is asking the government to address the issue immediately. They gave a three-week ultimatum, hoping for a response or a possible solution. They also called on former President John Dramani Mahama to help them raise their concerns and push for more affordable prices.

Though their cause may seem unusual to some, the protest shows how price hikes are impacting even the most unexpected parts of society. For the Ghana Drunkards Association, the issue goes beyond drinking.

Despite their advocacy’s nature, the GDA remains a large and active group in the country. Their protest demonstrates that even those often overlooked want their voices to be heard, especially regarding changes that affect their daily lives.

Whether or not their demands will be met is still uncertain, but their call for help has already gained attention across Ghana.
