Here’s the clap back of the Palace to the scathing remarks of VP Sara Duterte.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro responds to the remarks of VP Sara Duterte about the Marcos administration and the country’s debt.
Vice President Sara Duterte, on Sunday, expressed once again that she regretted teaming up with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during the 2022 elections. She spoke before the people who joined the rally in Melbourne, Australia, where the release of her father was called.

“We had that dark past in our country, and the principal figure of that was Marcos Sr. So I was thinking that he (Marcos Jr.) would want a legacy that is better than what we had before. Unfortunately, I did not vet properly my running mate,” said Duterte.
To recall, she was initially slated to run for president in 2022 with Senator Bong Go as her running mate. However, she did not pursue the presidency and instead backed Marcos Jr.’s candidacy as his vice president. Marcos Jr. and Duterte won a landslide in 2022, but their alliance fell apart.
It reached a point of no return when authorities filed an assault complaint against Duterte and members of her staff following her threatening remarks about Marcos.
Recently, through the Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro, the Palace reacted to the tirades.
Regarding the VP’s regrets in joining the Uniteam, Castro stated that such a thing will never be heard from the president. She said, “Sa ugali po ng Pangulo, hindi po natin madidinig ang ganung klaseng negatibo mula sa kanya. Wala tayong aasahan na kung anong paninira kanino man. Yan po ang pangulo. Kung may magsisisi man na sa kanya maka-team up siya, it’s their loss not the President’s.”
Apart from this, she also made comments about the country’s PHP 16 trillion debt and questioned the ballooning debt with a warning to future generations of Filipinos that would bear the burden of repaying it. According to her, the PHP 16 trillion debt is the total debt of the Philippine government, and she added that a huge chunk of it was already there even before Marcos assumed the presidency.
Castro pointed out that the biggest debt was incurred by her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte. PHP 6.84 trillion of the national debt was incurred under the Duterte administration.
“At tatandaan din natin, ang administrasyon ni dating Pangulong Duterte ang naitalang may pinakamataas na naging utang na umabot ng P12.79 trillion as of June 2022. At solong utang po ng administrasyong Duterte ay umaabot ng P6.84 trillion as of June 2022. At nagkaroon ng increase ng 115.1 percent sa pagkaka-utang,” Castro said.
