Derek Ramsay Gets Honest About Angelica Panganiban and Past Struggles on ‘The B Side’
DEREK RAMSAY – Angelica Panganiban was brought up by Derek Ramsay in a rare interview, where he acknowledged her role in his growth as an actor.
Derek Ramsay recently appeared on The B Side, a talk show hosted by Bianca Gonzalez, where he reflected on his career in the entertainment industry and the individuals who influenced his growth. The interview, which aired on Cinema One, offered audiences an intimate look into Derek’s early days, the obstacles he faced, and the memorable roles that helped define his career.
Throughout the conversation, Bianca encouraged Derek to revisit some of the significant moments in his journey, particularly his participation in the 2006 drama sequel Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik. In the series, Derek portrayed Joaquin Delos Santos, a role that had him working alongside well-known actors such as John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Sam Milby, and Anne Curtis.
Bianca brought up this period in his career and asked, “Nakasama ka sa Maging Sino Ka Man, sa Book 2. From that, I remember kasi na kasama dun si Toni [Gonzaga] and there was Vice Ganda. What was that like? Yung being part of the second chapter of such an iconic soap?”
Derek spoke candidly about the pressure he experienced while taking part in the highly anticipated sequel. “I already felt the pressure, kasi when they announced it, they were honest to tell me na, ‘Hey, it’s more pressure now’ kasi Book 1 was so big. I’m now on stage with other big stars too and I’m just starting my career,” he said. He continued, “These guys were big names already and I just felt so much pressure working with all of them, and being in a project that already had so much success.”
In an emotional part of the interview, Derek acknowledged the support he received from his ex-girlfriend, Angelica Panganiban, during that time. “It’s so much hard to do, yung sequel, right? The pressure was pretty intense, but at the time, Angelica [Panganiban] was my girlfriend and she’s a talented actress so she was able to help me,” he shared.
The former couple were together for six years before separating in 2012. Derek’s heartfelt acknowledgment of Angelica resonated with viewers, who commended his honesty and gratefulness.
Though he is now semi-retired, Derek Ramsay remains a well-regarded figure in showbiz, admired for both his skill and sincerity.
